urbanation
producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter
listen: spotify - apple music - bandcamp - soundcloud
i started this solo music project in 2012 with an Acer notebook, a microphone app on my iPhone 4, a 2-inch aux cable, and the noise-dampening acoustics of sitting in front of my bedroom closet.
my first recording was a cover of shelter by the XX. it wasn't very good, but it marks the beginning of a special part of my life i treasure dearly.
i taught myself sound editing, mixing, recording techniques. i familiarized myself with DAWs, building proficiency in Mixcraft, then to GarageBand, onto my current favorite, Logic Pro. (big thanks to YouTube and Reddit for the tips)
the work (and fun) paid off. urbanation has amassed 3+ million streams across YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud streaming platforms. every day i feel so grateful to hear from listeners all over the world about how my songs have impacted them.
urbanation has supported acts including Black Belt Eagle Scout and Beach Fossils, and has performed at venues including Paper Tiger, (TX) Holy Diver, (CA) and Baby's All Right. (NY)
some skills i have learned from being a
producer/singer-songwriter:
- recording, recording techniques, mic placement
- producing, plug-ins, bussing, etc.
- audio editing on Digital Audio Workstations
- mixing and mastering
- performing under high pressure (oh the thrill and anxiety and beautiful chaos that is doing live shows)
- artist and PR relations
- designing all digital assets (cover art, social media promotion) on adobe photoshop
- social media marketing
i love the cathartic release of songwriting, the people i get to meet and make music with, and putting together something big with the resources i have. the process of creating a project from start to finish is a ⭐️ magical feeling ⭐️ - gathering bits of sound and words into a song that resonates with listeners all over the world - is what has always attracted me to production.
also, i just really love music.
